Auto Insurance FAQ

Why carry auto liability insurance?

Liability insurance is required by the State of Texas to cover the expenses for you causing an auto accident, like the cost of repairing what you hit, and any medical bills for the people in the car that you hit.

What is Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists coverage?

Even though the State requires every car and driver to have liability insurance, there are many cars, and drivers, out there, on the roads, with no insurance. This coverage will pay for damages done to you and your property by an uninsured or underinsured person causing damages to your property and will pay for your medical bills, if any, per the limits that you choose.

I have Rental Reimbursement. Will that cover any car I have to rent?

Rental Reimbursement is designed to cover the cost of renting a car to use while your car is in the shop because you caused the accident. This coverage will not pay when the repairs are not caused by an accident. If the other party caused the accident, their insurance coverage will cover your rental, or if they have no insurance, there may be some coverage. Contact your claims representative for details on who will pay for what.

What is PIP and do I really need it? What if I'm retired?

PIP stands for Personal Injury Protection and covers loss wages if you are unable to work due to an injury because of an accident. This will cover you if the accident is your fault or not. You have to be out of work for a certain period of time and there is a limit to how much will be paid and when. If you were retired, you would want Medical Payments, not PIP, to help cover you costs, such as your deductibles and co-pays. Contact us to decide which is right for you.

What does collision cover?

Collision coverage is designed to cover the costs to repair your vehicle's damage caused during an accident. On most policies, you are required to pay a portion of the costs. This amount is called your deductible. When you are responsible for causing the accident, you are required to pay your deductible to get your vehicle repaired.

What does Comprehensive/Other than collision cover?

Comprehensive coverage is used to cover any damage done to your vehicle other than an accident. Theft, fire, vandalism, hail, or any other weather related damages are usually covered. There may be more perils covered by your policy, contact your agent for details.

What does Towing cover?

Towing coverage is designed to reimburse you for a tow of a covered vehicle. The tow can be for any reason; accident, breaks down, it doesn't matter. You will be reimbursed up to the limit of the coverage. Normal limits are anywhere from $40-$120. If you have AAA coverage, and you use up your free tows, this coverage will still pay.
